Rockpile AVA

Rockpile became an AVA in 2002, but the region has been called Rockpile since the 1850s.

According to the Rockpile Grape Growers Association, the region is 15,000 acres in size, but less than 160 acres are planted with these varietals: Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petite Verdot, and several heritage Porto varieties are planted in the 160 acres.

A number of wineries purchase grapes from Rockpile growers, including Bella,
Carol Shelton, Robert Biale Vineyards,
Seghesio Family Vineyards, St. Francis and Stryker Sonoma Winery.

Dry Creek

Dry Creek AVA

The Dry Creek Valley AVA is an American Viticulture Area in Sonoma County, CA. It is located northwest of the town of Healdsburg in a valley created by Dry Creek. While only a few miles from the Russian River, the climate is quite different.

On a normal summer day the temperature can be 10 to 15 degrees warmer making it ideal for such varietals as Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc.

The entire valley measures 16 miles by 2 miles.

Over 50 wineries populate the Dry Creek Valley AVA. Because these properties are basically owned by farmers, ther sell a large amount of grapes outside the valley. Due to the high quality of the fruit over 160 wineries use the Dry Creek to produce wines that proudly state the Dry Creek Valley AVA on their label.

Almost all of the wineries are small and still family owned. They work hard with the soil and deal with what the weather provides resulting in some of the finest wines in California.
